EPI Systems SA offers the opportunity to accommodations, that have no wiring for networking, to obtain wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) networking by using their already installed telephone or television networks.

EPI Systems offers two different solutions to tackle the problem of no networking:

EPI T5 Broadband system is specially designed for large telephone networks inside buildings as are the hotels. T5 uses the already existing telephone wiring in order to deliver Ethernet network and also wireless coverage that follows the 802.11 protocol.

The system is being built over the already existing cabling infrastructure of the telephone network and needs no new cables to be installed

The solution that is being proposed by EPI Systems has several advantages as:

  • The system is being built on the already existing telephone network cabling infrastructure and delivers power for the connected over that cabling. That way there is no need to add new cables either to carry data signals or power.
  • The installation, operation and maintenance of the proposed system is easy and thus the cost is reduced and the provision of wideband connection to the Internet can be free for the customers of the accommodation.
  • The need of extensive study of the space that needs covering before the application is eliminated and the system needs less frequent maintenance inspections.

The technology behind EPI Ethernet/ Wi-Fi over Coax is using the free capacity of the existing television infrastructure (television cables) in a building and creates or extends the data network of an accommodation in every place where a TV outlet exists. It is a solution that minimizes the cost of creating a data network, mainly in everything that concerns the creation of structured cabling.

The proposed system is composed from the Master units that are placed near the point that the cables from the TV antennas enter the building. The cable from the router is also connected on the Master units, apart from the coaxial cable that carries the TV signal. The Master unit combines the two signals (TV and data) to one which exits the unit and is fed to the television cabling infrastructure of the building.

At every point that a TV outlet exists there can be connected an Endpoint unit. The Endpoint unit separates the TV signal from the data. The TV signal can then be fed to a TV appliance via a coaxial cable and the data signal will be delivered as a Wi-Fi signal via the Endpoint unit. Also, the data signal can be delivered via cable which can be connected on the device.

For more complex TV infrastructures, where the cabling consists of multiple lines that emanate from a common starting point at the entry point of the antenna cables a Master unit with 2 TV signal inputs can be used. This unit has also two output ports from where the combined signals of TV and data is delivered to the cabling infrastructure of the building. In the following picture is shown the use of Master units with one and two TV signal inputs for an accommodation that has five different lines that feed the building with TV signal.

This architecture leads to the feeding of the infrastructure with TV signal and data that can be received from every TV outlet in the building

The solution that is being proposed by EPI Systems has several advantages as:

  • The system is being built on the already existing television infrastructure of the builing. That way there is no need to add new cables in order to create the new network.
  • The installation and operation of the proposed system is easy and thus the cost is reduced and the provision of wideband connection to the Internet can be free for the customers of the accommodation.
  • The need of extensive study of the space that needs covering before the application is eliminated and the access points (Endpoint) are installed in the rooms of the accommodation. This has as a result better coverage of the rooms with Wi-Fi signal.
